Hooked on Albums: A Fiber & Vinyl Series
Because some albums deserve to be on your wall.
Hooked on Albums is a series that came about when I had realized it had been years, if not decades, that I had listened to some of my favorite albums from start to finish. When I thought about them, I wondered if my favorite songs from years past would still be my favorite songs today. While I wanted to re-listen to the albums, I also aimed to commemorate them. I decided this would be done with crocheted fiber art.
THE CONCEPT: Crocheted Wall Hangings
Originally, I thought I would crochet an album blanket. However, that would be a huge task for each album and a large finished blanket per album. So I decided on a wall hanging for each album. Each album will be different, but the concept for each wall hanging is the same. The wall hanging will include twelve crocheted squares: nine colored to match the album colors and three icon squares. On each icon square, there will be a ranking of one, two, or three hearts or stars for my Top 3 songs. The top crocheted strip will include the name of the artist and the bottom an album specific motif.
SONG RANKING
This is what I am most excited about. I am really interested to see if the songs I enjoyed the most when I was growing up still resonate with me decades later. For this project I’ll be listening to each artist’s entire catalog in release order, ranking every sing on every album. Because of this, I’ll be not only ranking my Top 3 songs but all albums and eventually compiling a Top 25 artist list.
FIRST ARTIST & MORE
There are a lot of artists that I want to re-listen to, rank, and crochet an album fiber art piece. Some of the artists on my short list are Bananarama, Concrete Blonde, The Go-Go’s, and Depeche Mode. But next week, we start with one of my favorite albums growing up as a child of the ’80s:
